Montessori Academy

Montessori programs for children ages 2-5.

What Sets Us Apart?

We believe children CAN do, before thinking they CANNOT;
We believe children want to be responsible members of the home and classroom;
We believe our role is to guide them, as well as care for them.

Our Philosophy

We have created an environment where our highly trained staff are committed to each unique child through dedicated teaching and care. We use the Montessori philosophy to encourage and challenge students according to their sensitive periods for learning. Children work in the areas of Language, Mathematics, Sensorial, Practical Life, Science, Culture and Art. Full time and part time programs are available. Music classes are included in full time programming for children ages 2-5 years. Swimming lessons in our heated indoor pool are available for full time students who are 3 and 4 years old and fully toilet trained.

School Curriculum

Practical Life

Practical Life Exercises are the foundation of the Montessori philosophy.

This area of the classroom enhances the development of task organization and cognitive order through care of self, care of environment, exercises of grace and courtesy, and coordination of physical movement. Children gain confidence in their abilities and take pride in being independent.

Math

Makes use of manipulative materials to enable children to internalize concepts of number, symbol, sequence, operations and later memorization of basic facts.

Music

Children can register in a weekly Music Class led by a certified Instructor. There they learn through doing, exploring and improvising. The children are active participants in an integrated, guided process, one that allows for differing musical abilities.

They will learn to play a variety of instruments (cymbals, triangle, bells, tambourine, tick tock block, claves, maracas, guiro, rhythm sticks…..).

Sensorial

This area of the classroom enables the child to order, classify and describe sensory impressions in relation to length, width, temperature, mass, color, sound and smell.

Culture & Science

This area of the classroom exposes the child to basics in geography, history, culture and life sciences. Students will take part in science experiments, cultural celebrations, learn about famous artists, composers and authors.

Art is also part of the integrated cultural curriculum.

Playground

The Playground has been designed to be child friendly and safe (rubber matting). Outdoor time is a crucial part of a child’s day.

While outdoors the children enjoy gross motor skills which help to develop a sense of mastery over the use of their bodies. It is also a wonderful time to socialize with friends.

Language

Includes oral language development, written expression, reading, and children’s literature.

Basic skills in reading and writing are developed through the use of sandpaper letters, wooden alphabet and various presentations allowing children to link sounds and letter symbols effortlessly.

Art

Famous artists and their works are introduced to the children. They are exposed to a variety of art mediums and complete 3D projects throughout the year.

Children are encouraged to create!

Swim

Swim Lessons – swimming lessons are taught by a qualified swim instructor. Children learn about water safety and are encouraged to work through swimming levels.

Gym

Children attending a full time program have the benefit of weekly fitness classes. Our Kid Fit Fitness program helps to promote and foster enjoyment of movement and motor control.

It teaches co-operative skills and teamwork, develops and refines balance, eye hand coordination, depth perception, exercise, and offers an introduction to small group sports. This begins with the use of a dedicated space we call our “Mini Gym” for Toddler to Junior Kindergarten (4 years of age). Children will explore weekly Skill Based activities with one of their Teacher’s.
